Water Administrator with a Focus on Water Restoration

The County Administrative Board's approximately 300 employees work as the government's representative at the regional level. Our mission is to develop the county and ensure that national political goals are realized in the region. We strive to be an authority free from discrimination and want to harness the qualities that diversity brings to our operations.

At the Water Unit, there are just over 30 employees. Here we work broadly with issues concerning water, fishing, and environmental monitoring in the county. Everything from restoring aquatic environments, liming, and fishing to water management, environmental analysis, and drinking water supply. The unit also operates its own water laboratory, which plays a central role in the county administrative boards' work with lime effect monitoring. The Water Unit is constantly working to increase the pace and implementation of measures in the county, both by providing grants for local water conservation and fishing projects through fishing conservation grants, and by seeking new water conservation projects within the EU's various environmental and fishing funds. The unit has experts who are happy to share their knowledge.

We work with respect, professionalism, and openness for the county's residents – together for a sustainable future!

Description

Physical impacts in the form of previous timber floating, migration barriers, drainage, and water regulation for electricity production are the most extensive impacts on the county's lakes and watercourses.

One of the County Administrative Board's missions related to this is to promote the restoration of aquatic environments in various ways, both by providing support/guidance to various actors in the county and by seeking, managing, and implementing projects where concrete physical measures are taken.

The Water Unit is now seeking a water administrator focused on water restoration.

Responsibilities

In the County Administrative Board's work with restoring aquatic environments, collaboration with various water conservation actors at the regional and local levels, along with the concretization and prioritization of measures, are crucial elements for the final implementation of concrete actions. To carry out measures of sufficiently high quality, extensive preparatory work is needed in the form of planning, anchoring with land and fishing rights holders, and applying for permits under the Environmental Code. During the actual implementation of measures, coordination and leadership of both seasonal field staff and contracted machine operators are required.

The daily work takes place within the operational area 'Fishing and Measures' in the working group for the Restoration of Water and Wetlands, but in close collaboration with the functions for Environmental Analysis and Water Management, where the unit's collective work with data and knowledge bases as well as assessments of water status and measures needed according to the EU Water Framework Directive are conducted.

Other tasks within the unit may also become relevant in the position.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with relevant education related to biology/water conservation/fish conservation or other education that the employer deems relevant for the position. You should have at least three years of work experience in restoring aquatic environments. We are looking for a structured water administrator who has good collaboration skills and the ability to build good relationships both internally and externally. As the work involves travel, a driver's license (B) is required. The work also requires experience in using mapping services within ArcGIS Pro or equivalent.

Documented work experience in restoring water in transport-restricted watercourses, so-called C-sections, is particularly meritorious for the position. It is also advantageous if you have the necessary training in occupational safety legislation (BAS-U/BAS P).

As a person, you work purposefully towards common goals, have a good overall view and a structured way of working, are receptive and unpretentious, and create good relationships – both internally and externally. You have an easy time communicating in a target group-adapted manner in a simple and understandable way, both orally and in writing.

We place great emphasis on your personal abilities. Living according to the state's value base is also self-evident for you.

We offer you a meaningful job with varied tasks. You will make a difference for our county and society. The County Administrative Board is a broad authority, which means that you will constantly have the opportunity to develop and learn new things. This applies to several policy areas.

As an employer, we focus on good employment conditions, active work environment efforts, and health-promoting wellness activities. We value collaboration with our trade union partners and can offer remote work.

In the case of a permanent position at the County Administrative Board, you will be designated to the authority. Depending on the position, it may involve service in a crisis staff and security classification. We usually start with a probationary period for permanent positions.

Information on how we process your personal data can be found at www.lansstyrelsen.se/dataskydd (www.lansstyrelsen.se/dataskydd)
